Dance Operations director:
Crystal Brightful is a native of Baltimore,MD. Crystal has been with the CSOD family since 2014 when her daughter began dancing. With her love of being around the dance school she became a dance mom in 2016 and the official stage manager in 2017. Crystal’s greatest desire for CSOD is that it operates smoothly and that every child feels welcomed and accepted while being empowered to learn and perfect their gift of dance.
PArent LIAISON Director:
Mrs. Kenya Smith a Baltimore native is a wife, mother and mentor. Mrs. Kenya has been a dance mom for at least 20 years, but became an official part of the CSOD family in Fall 2017, as the office manager. A graduate of Morgan State University (MSU), with a Bachelor's of Science in Telecommunications, as well as a proud graduate of Western High School. #DOVELOVE . She has 20+ years of professional experience working with students and families in the Baltimore area and looks forward to working with the students and families of CSOD.
A Baltimore native, Stephanie graduated in 2013 from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Through the years in conjunction with her academics, Stephanie also had an interest in dance. She began her dance training under the direction of Stephanie Powell for 20 years and her training in Liturgical ministry under the direction of Charlene Grant. Stephanie has been a participate in the Association of Blacks in Dance conference, Bethel AME dance ministry, Visions of Praise dance ministry, Bennett College’s Spirit of David dance ministry, and member of the Baltimore Dance Tech Alumni Dance Ensemble. After graduating from college, Ms. Clarke started teaching dance for the YMCA Before/After School Enrichment program at Waverly. While teaching dance she also began teaching Language Arts and Social Studies in the Baltimore City Public School System. While educating during the day, obtaining a Masters of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University, Stephanie teaches dance at The Carroll School of Dance and also at Visions Christian School of Etiquette and Dance. One of Ms. Clarke’s goal is to not only educate the youth of Baltimore academically, but also use dance as an outlet for young women to express who they really are.
Shebrae has been dancing since the age of six. Born and raised in Baltimore she has studied with various studios throughout Baltimore City, County, and Harford County. She loves to create interesting choreography while holding truth to technique. Shebrae has been the recipient of many top choreography awards including national award winning performance groups.She is currently a senior at Goucher College, located in Towson, MD majoring in Elementary.
Tremara Mckeemer, known as “Ms. Mara”, was born and raised in northeast Baltimore, Maryland. She is the oldest of three siblings, and is the only one in her family with a college degree. Ms. Mara graduated from Morgan State University in Fall 2017 with a degree in Physical/Dance Education. With her degree, she looks forward in getting into more professional dance work, in hopes to moving to LA for commercial dance. During her journey at Morgan State she was a part of the Modern Dance Ensemble for two years. Throughout her lifetime she has done hip hop, ballet, African, modern, jazz, liturgical, and musical theater dance. Ms. Mara has taught physical education and dance from grades K-12 as part of her internship for Morgan State. Her dance specialties are in hip hop dance (Majorette Style) and African dance. Ms. Mara enjoys teaching, dancing, and sharing her love for dance through her choreography. On her free time, Ms. Mara loves to do yoga, Pilates, and take dance classes as part of her “GET FIT! STAY FIT” lifestyle. In the future Ms. Mara plans to own a dance, yoga, and Pilate’s fitness studio and eventually wants to further her education into getting a Masters in Dance Therapy in order to focus on the holistic side of Dance
Hip hop dance Instructor:
Mr Andre Insane is a native of Baltimore, MD. He began his training at the prestigious Baltimore School of the Arts and CCBC in Ballet, Hip Hop, and Jazz. He is an expert dance teacher in Hip Hop, House and Baltimore Club Dance. Mr Insane was a previous teacher at Florida's I Shine Dance Company in Port St. Lucie. The company was featured on Americas Got Talent season 10 and Tru Crew Studios in Orlando, under is direction. He is a very well known choreographer in Baltimore City. He has taught over 500 students at several different dance studios. In addition he has choreographed for several music videos, cheer teams, and fashion shows.
Kelly has been with The Carroll School of Dance since the spring of 2015. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, Kelly graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Delaware in June 2013 and a Master of Science Degree in Education from Johns Hopkin’s University in May 2016. Kelly has enjoyed dancing since the young age of three. Her favorite styles of dance are ballet, tap, jazz, and modern. Teaching dance has always been one of Kelly’s passions. Kelly has been a kindergarten and Pre-K teacher at Thomas Jefferson Elementary Middle School since the fall of 2013. This is when she began an after school dance program for students in grades Pre-K through 8th. This program has now expanded and has been in over 5 Baltimore City Public Schools as an after school dance program. Kelly’s after school dance group at Thomas Jefferson was the recipient of the Visionary Art Program of the Year awarded by Young Audiences of Maryland in 2016. Kelly looks forward to continue to grow as a dance teacher with The Carroll School of Dance and is grateful to be a part of such a great dance community.
